Support for Driving Lessons Through the Motability Scheme
If you’re currently a Motability Scheme customer — or have an application underway — you might be eligible for help with the cost of driving lessons if:
✅ You hold a provisional driving licence and have passed your theory test.
✅ You receive a means-tested benefit from the Government.
✅ Or, you’ve received a grant from us to adapt the driving controls on your Motability vehicle and need lessons to learn how to use them.
Please note:
There is a high demand for driving lessons, and many instructors are unable to accept new learners at the moment. If you are awarded a charitable grant for lessons, it may take several months before lessons can start.

How to Apply for a Driving Lessons Grant
If you believe you meet the eligibility criteria, please contact the grants team on 0800 500 3186 and request to apply for a Driving Lessons Grant.
Once your application has been submitted, it will be assigned to a Case Manager for review. Please wait to be contacted by your Case Manager, who will provide an update on the progress of your application.
Grants are awarded based on the Motability Foundation’s policies and a thorough assessment of the information provided.
Please note that all grant decisions are final, and applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be approved for funding.

What Does the Driving Lessons Grant Cover?
If you currently have a lease agreement through the Motability Scheme, or have a Scheme vehicle on order, and you hold a provisional driving licence along with a valid theory test pass certificate, you may be eligible for support towards the cost of driving lessons.
The grant can provide funding for up to 40 hours of driving lessons to help you prepare for and pass your practical driving test.
Please note: You will be responsible for covering the costs of both your theory and practical driving tests.
If you are already a Motability Scheme customer and have received a Motability Foundation grant for adaptations to your vehicle, the Driving Lessons Grant may also help cover the cost of familiarisation lessons, enabling you to learn how to safely use your new driving controls.
